No Life Without YOU

"I can't imagine a life without YOU, because it's all for YOU."

These are the words of a song by Matt Crocker and James Dunlop of Hillsong.

I haven't tried imagining a day in my life without GOD...

If you can imagine living a day without GOD, are you really as sold out as you'd like to believe?

I Control This Circle

Last week it began to dawn on me how diluted my life had become ... divided between so many things, distractions everywhere and making time for GOD was a challenge. I was concerned with so many things that were unavoidable and unchangeable, until I had to make a decision ... following the old cliché (which I prefer to think of as a proverb, because even though it’s a little tired and overused, it is always relevant and sound advice) to “let go and let GOD”.

I started reading a book by Glyn Barrett, called If I Were the Devil, in which he spoke of “the circle of no control”, which refers to all those things in one’s life that you have no control over – such as the weather, events, other people’s behaviour, including their reactions and responses toward you.

What is the use of worrying over these things when nothing you do can change them?

All that you have control over are your own attitudes, behaviour and actions.

When Glyn reiterated this teaching on the Young Adult camp he led for our church, I began doing something that I’d put off for way too long – being intentional about what I give my time and attention to.

I have an idea about what GOD’s plan for my life involves. I don’t know how or when things will progress, but I do know that I can develop my strengths to the best of my ability, take every opportunity that will stretch me and grow me in the right areas and focus on the gifts GOD has given me for this purpose.

HIS purpose.

Alone Time

Time to be alone
Time to be with You
What I need
When breathing becomes a chore
When thoughts make no sense

Thoughts of
Skunk Off
Those girls
My deodorant
Supper
GOD

Nowhere to lay it down
Nowhere to work it out
The juggler drops the balls
Not one by one
At once everything falls

But You can pick it up
Fixing
Discarding
In time
But first
Time

Time to be alone with You

How do I do this?

It’s going to take me a while to get this blogging thing right ... I’m still very selfish with my thoughts and feelings and revelations. I can share them with one or two people face-to-face, in a situation where I can respond to their feedback and explain myself to them ... but it’s quite scary sharing them here where they’re so definite and permanent and printed in black and white ... in Tribuchet.

Yes, I did actually go and check the font before posting this ... I’m kind of OCD that way ... or COD as a friend of mine says ... inside joke, he makes me laugh. He also encourages me ... he sent me this verse the other morning:

“The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my inheritance; therefore I will hope in Him.’”
- Lamentations 3:22–24

Pretty awesome, hey? It helped me get through this week. I really don’t dig the idea of just living for the weekend ... I totally believe that every day is an opportunity for joy and discovery ... but that’s what I’ve been doing this week and gee whiz, am I glad this weekend’s here!!

Thanks for getting me through this week, LORD, I couldn’t have done it without You! You are my strength and my fortress; my hope is in You and I’m AMPed!!

So here I am doing what needs to be done ... but there’s more to life than that and I need to find out from GOD what that is – I think it’s going to be a pretty extraordinary weekend, so here goes ...

Lights that do not Blind

I recently had the opportunity to read a poem written by one of the most humble people I know, and I was totally overwhelmed by the beauty of the imagery and the depth of truth in his words.

The lights of the humble always shine brighter, because they do not seek to blind, they can see beyond themselves. Why?

Because they are not limited to the realm of Me.

They can view the world around them with open and honest eyes, without searching for its relation to them. They can observe the universe, the ways of the world and the ways of man with objectivity; and comment productively.

Jodi Picoult writes in her novel, My Sister’s Keeper, that:

“Everyone under the age of seven is fluent in Ifspeak ... it doesn’t really matter how far you go; the point is that it is a world of possibility. Kids think with their brains cracked wide open; becoming an adult, I’ve decided, is only a slow sewing shut.” *

It seems to me that the journey from humility to pride is much the same.

I cannot remember the last time I wrote anything that was not in some way about me. But this is not a note of self-pity, simply the realisation that I still have a long path to walk before reaching true humility.

Which begs the question, is even writing this a step in the right or the wrong direction?

Another thought:
It has been said that the man who thinks himself humble is, in fact, the furthest from being so.
